The Long Island Mineral & Geology Society
Wednesday, March 10th at 7:00 PM
Join us in the Nature Center for a great slide presentation offered by the LI Mineral & Geology Society. Learn about Long Island's formation and why we find what we do on the beaches. View samples of rocks, fossils, and minerals, take a look into a stereo microscope to view the minerals in Long Island sands, and check out a neat demonstration of fluorescent minerals. The president, vice president, and editor of the Society will be discussing activities, programs, and the Annual Gem Show offered by the Society. A free program for adults and teens. Reservations requested please.
Eggstravaganza
Thursday, March 25th 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM
Inspect the Refuge egg & nest collection for ideas to create your own fun nest craft. You may want to bring a smock or an old shirt with you! We will decorate our own ‘nests’ and color and decorate hard-boiled eggs to take home! Reservations Required. $5 fee per child, space is limited. Dress appropriately as the program will take place outside. A program for children ages 5-12.
After School Meet the Reptiles

Join QWR Intern, Ashley, from Stony Brook Southampton to meet, hold, and learn about all kinds of reptiles. Check out our scaly, cold blooded friends! A free program for all ages. Reservations requested.

Annual Egg Hunt
Sunday, April 4th
Session I 9:30-10:30 AM & Session II 11:00 AM-12:00PM
Create a bunny craft and then hop on down Peter Cottontail’s Trail to a special spot on the Refuge for an egg hunt. A very popular program, so sign up early! A program for children ages 2 to 4 accompanied by an adult. $8.00 per child. Space is limited. Reservations required.
Organics for the Soul
Wednesday, April 7th at 7:00 PM
Jeff Frank, founder of The Nature Lyceum School for Organic Horticulture, will be lecturing about gardening and organics. The focus will be on understanding where we are in relationship to the planet and how to re-establish our relationship with Mother Earth. Bring your gardening questions! Earth Day Celebration
Saturday, April 17th 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Come and celebrate nature and our lovely planet at the Refuge during this all day affair! The day will include guided nature walks, live animal presentations, crafts for children, environmental exhibitors, and self-guided kayaking and canoeing on Old Ice Pond. This celebration is offered by Quogue Wildlife Refuge and Eastern Long Island Audubon Society. A great day for all ages! No reservations necessary. Rain or shine.
Full Moon Night Hike
Wednesday, April 28th at 7:00 PM
Join us for a nighttime hike through the forest up to North Pond as we look and listen for nocturnal creatures, and enjoy some night vision activities. The walk will last approximately 1 ½ hours. Reservations required 24 hours prior, space is limited. A program for adults and families with children over 11. Free for members, $5.00 for non-members.

Morning May Walks
Every Thursday at 8:30 AM during the month of May
Observe the season of spring unfold before your eyes. Start your weekend off with a walk in the forest! Come and learn about fiddleheads, skunk cabbage, songbirds and new growth in the Pine Barrens Forest. A lovely time for a guided walk on the trails. Feel free to bring or borrow binoculars. A free program for adults and families. Reservations required by 4pm the previous day
BATS!
Monday, May 10th at 7:00 PM
Come to the Nature Center for a power point presentation all about bats! Learn about the lifestyles of native Long Island bats as well as fruit bats and flying foxes from all over the world. Bat boxes will be available for sale. And learn what you can do to help these ecologically important creatures. A free program for adults and families. Reservations required.
World Turtle Day
Saturday, May 22nd at 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Join staff to learn all about turtles and meet a variety of turtles and tortoises. Then we will take a hike on the wooded trails up to the bridge to search for the notorious snapping turtles that live under the bridge, as well as for the Eastern Box Turtle which is now a Species of Special Concern. Dress for the weather. A free program all ages. Reservations required.
